Volunteering for ‘La Ruche’ The Beehive at Cergy, Soit ! (street arts festival), 20-23 September 201

Je m’attelle enfin à cet article sur mon expérience en tant que bénévole à Cergy-Soit ! avec La Ruche (association culturelle implantée sur Cergy-Pontoise mais qui rayonne bien au-delà de l’agglomération). J’ai mis du temps avant d’écrire cet article parce que voilà, j’étais toute chamboulée. Il a fallu que je me remette de mes émotions Cergy-Soit ! Une bénévole m’avait prévenue : ‘Tu vas voir Cergy-Soit ! c’est l’euphorie et après une fois que c’est fini pas facile.’ Je me suis retrouvée seule chez moi le lundi suivant avec un blues et une petite larme à l’œil qui m’ont surpris moi-même….
J’ai été très bien accueillie par les autres bénévoles bienveillants, avenants et aussi patients….(je suis très nulle pour ce qui est de me rappeller des prénoms et/ou surnoms…) Il y avait une énergie et une humanité folle. Tout ça malgré un temps extrêmement pourri. La bonne humeur et le travail d’équipe ont fait que malgré les ‘bourbiers’ tout s’est très bien passé et le public qui a bravé le temps à pu se régaler : bonne musique, bonne ambiance, bonne restauration, restitution du projet citoyen « Expressions Directes » (recueil de paroles d’habitants sur le sujet : ‘c’est quoi ta France dans 10 ans’) et mon coup de cœur perso le Stereo Square (que j’avais déjà adoré l’année d’avant).
Je n’ai pas beaucoup de photos puisque j’ai voulu profiter à fond et pour moi ça veut dire ne pas passer trop de temps à faire de photos ou sur mon téléphone. Le peu d’images que j’ai ne sont pas non plus terribles comparées aux photos prises par l’association. Je mets ci-dessous le lien vers l’album réalisé par l’association La Ruche.
J’ai pu discuter un peu avec les bénévoles. J’ai rencontré notamment des musiciens qui m’ont dit à quel point La Ruche leur avait apporté comme par exemple de la chaleur humaine, des opportunités d’apprendre et de développer des talents auprès d’artistes/professionnels plus expérimentés, des rencontres humaines et créatives et des possibilités de partager et de donner.
Alors que je ne voulais pas trop déranger avec mes questions de thèse surtout en fin de festival puisque tout le monde était très fatigué, quelques personnes sont venues me parler pour me partager quelque unes de leurs opinions et expériences sur l’évolution de la scène culturelle et locale. Je retiendrai ce commentaire d’une personne qui me disait que ce qui impacte la scène musicale et culturelle locale, ce n’est pas forcément la morosité ambiante, le capitalisme ou toutes ces conjonctures structurelles et contextuelles. Un aspect important est aussi le changement d’état d’esprit de la société. Il n’est ni pire, ni meilleur. Il est différent. Il y a des choses qui n’étaient pas acceptables (comportements, avis, etc.) avant et qui le sont devenus. Il y a des choses qui étaient acceptables et qui ne le sont plus. Cela change la façon dont les gens expriment leur créativité et réalisent des projets. Je perds souvent cette idée de vu quand je pense à ma thèse et pourtant c’est tellement évident et essentiel. ‘Food for thought’ comme on dit en anglais.
Merci encore à La Ruche et ses abeilles de m’avoir si bien accueillie et communiqué leur énergie positive. J’ai hâte de contribuer à nouveaux aux autres évènements de cette belle démarche citoyenne.

Volunteering for ‘La Ruche’ The Beehive at Cergy Soit ! (street arts festival), 20-23 September 2018:
I’m finally writing this article on my experience as a volunteer at Cergy Soit ! with La Ruche (the Beehive) (cultural community group based in Cergy-Pontoise but with a much wider outreach). It took me time to write this article because my emotions were all over the place. I had to settle my feelings before writing this. A volunteer warned me during the festival : ‘You will see Cergy Soit ! is like euphoria and once it’s finished, it can be quite hard’. I surprisingly found myself a bit sad and teary back home the Monday after the festival…
I was very welcomed by other volunteers. They were generous, kind and patient… (I am very bad at remembering names and nicknames…). There was a great energy and humanity there despite an awful weather. The overal great mood and team work made everything go very smoothly despite the weather. The audience who braved the weather enjoyed great music, atmospher, food and beverages, the exhibition of a project that the community group run for several months with residents (they went around Cergy-Pontoise asking people : What is your France in 10 years ?), and my personal favorite : Stereo Square (DJs battle).
I don’t have many pictures as I really wanted to immersed myself into the moment and the festival and for me it meant not spending too much time on my phone or taking pictures. The few images I took are not great, so I added to this article the link of the pictures taken by the community group.
I chatted a bit with volunteers. I met musicians who told me how much La Ruche contributed to them. They mentioned to me opportunities to learn and develop their skills with more experienced musicians, socialising, creative encounters and many occasions to share and give.
I did not want to disturb too much with my thesis questions especially at the end of the festival as everyone was very tired by then. Funny enough, it is at this time that a few people approached me to share their opinions and experiences on the evolution of the local music and cultural scenes. I remember this comment of one person telling me that it is not only austerity, capitalism, politics and other structural and contextual causes that impact the local scene. The society’s changing state of mind also impacts greatly the scene. For example, things that were acceptable ten years ago are not anymore and vice-versa. These subtle mindset evolution changes, modify the way people express their creativity and organise projects. I often do not think about this although it is very evident and essential to be able to understand the evolution of local music scenes. Food for thought.
Many thanks to La Ruche and its abeilles (bees) for welcoming me so well and shared their positive energy with me. I cannot wait to volunteer again to contribute to the other events of this beautiful citizen project.
